The
Welcome Home Project
The Welcome Home Project seeks to end discrimination
against immigrant renters in California
by linking legal professionals, community based organizations, public servants,
tenant associations, the faith-community and other interested individuals.
As a clearinghouse, the Welcome Home Project will provide up-to-date
information on legal and legislative strategies and develop new strategies to
defend the housing rights of immigrant renters, particularly those facing
retaliation for defending their rights to safe and sanitary housing conditions.
Activities:
Identify
and Document the housing barriers faced by immigrant renters in California.
Collect
testimony and other evidence of discrimination against immigrant renters
that can be used to develop legislative and litigation strategies.
Develop
and implement an ongoing educational campaign for immigrant renters and
property owners on the rights of all renters in California.
Support
immigrant tenant organizations aiming to combat intimidation and
retaliation.
Form
linkages with labor, immigrant rights, and other relevant organizations to share
strategies and work towards the common goal of assisting immigrant renters.
Advocate
for increased services to Immigrant Renters including free and low-cost
legal service.
Our Values:
Housing
and habitability are human rights.
A
housing crisis is a public health crisis.
All
residents of California
can work to improve their lives, homes, neighborhood and community without
fear of retaliation.
By
protecting the housing rights of all immigrants, we are protecting the
housing rights of all renters.
